Factors Influencing Use and Frequency of Rotational Grazing for Beef Cattle in Tennessee

چکیده
Abstract This study determines which factors are associated with the use of rotational grazing and frequency Tennessee producers rotate cattle during summer months. Survey data were used to estimate an ordered response model sample selection. Most respondents grazing, most frequent schedule was rotating one two times per month. Factors including labor, capital, knowledge, water availability influenced cattle. The insights from this can inform development incentives promote more intensive grazing.

Influence of supplementation method on forage use and grazing behavior by beef cattle grazing bluestem range.
Two 25-d trials (late summer and early winter) were conducted to determine the influence of supplementation method on forage use and grazing behavior. Fifteen ruminally and 12 esophageally fistulated steers (316 and 400 kg, respectively) were blocked by weight and assigned randomly to one of three treatments: 1) self-feeding supplement (via Calan gates) with salt as a limiting agent; 2) daily h...
متن کاملSupplementary Feeding of Grazing Beef Cattle
Some 60% of Australia% beef cattle are located in the tropics and subtropics, grazing, in general native pastures of low digestibility and N content. Production per head is low, as also are reproductive rates. The nutritional problem centres around the low contents of phosphorus, sulphur and nitrogen in pastures from June to December. This paper discusses responses in breeding cattle to supplem...
متن کاملTrace Mineral Supplementation of Grazing Beef Cattle
The nutrient quality of forage, particularly perennial warm-season grasses, is often lacking in trace mineral content to supply the requirements of most all classes of grazing cattle. Since forage is the most significant contributor to the trace mineral nutrition of grazing beef cattle, it is important to consider these deficits and how they may impact the performance of the cattle consuming th...
متن کاملSocial behavior of grazing beef cattle: Implications for management
This paper reviews current knowledge of the social behavior of grazing beef cattle and discusses how that knowledge can be applied to rangeland cattle management. Cattle herds are composed of social subgroups that influence grazing distribution on rangeland. Grazing distribution is, in part, a learned response; therefore, management strategies that alter the social composition and structure of ...
متن کاملGrazing behavior of rangeland beef cattle differing in biological type.
Grazing behavior exhibited by different biological types (breed groups) of lactating beef cows was evaluated during the summers of 1985 (Trial 1) and 1986 (Trial 2). Animals grazed native Montana foothill grassland. In Trial 1, breed groups consisted of Hereford (HH), 50% Angus-50% Hereford (AH), 50% Simmental-50% Hereford (SH), and 75% Simmental-25% Hereford (3S1H) with six cows per breed grou...
